KARACHI: Ever since the outbreak of COVID-19 around the world, there has been a constant mystery surrounding the production and release of films. While 2020 and 2021 saw little to no releases on the big screen, the year 2022 has been quite a busy one for Pakistani films. However, one question that was on everyone’s mind was: Is The Legend of Maula Jatt going to get a release date anytime soon? The answer is, finally yes! After a three year hiatus, Bilal Lashari’s film starring Mahira Khan, Fawad Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi and Humaima Malik in key roles will finally hit cinemas on October 13.

While the trailer released back in 2018, the film faced multiple hurdles along the way. When it was first announced, the film had been caught in a controversy as the makers of the new Maula Jatt and the original Maula Jatt (1979) fought a copyright infringement battle, wherein director Bilal Lashari denied allegations brought forward by Sarwar Bhatti, the producer of the 1979 Punjabi action flick. Lashari maintained he legally bought rights from the original Maula Jatt‘s writer Nasir Adeeb. The controversy was followed by the outbreak of the pandemic that halted the release of the film yet again.

However, The Legend of Maula Jatt surely has many excited with a new release date (that will hopefully not change again). Mahira Khan and Fawad Khan’s famous Humsafar onscreen couple is set to return with the new film and fans could not wait any longer. Even better is the fact that the two actors have another film wrapped up though the release date for Neelofar is yet to be announced.

Till then, let the promotions for Maula Jatt begin!
