KARACHI: Don’t Look Up was recently released on Netflix and the movie was an overnight success. The satirical comedy movie is centered around how a group of scientists are trying to convince people that the world is about to end but no one seems to take them seriously. But what makes the movie so great is that the incredible cast line up which includes the likes of Meryl Streep, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence and Jonah Hill have their characters based on real life people. If you’re confused about who is who in the movie, Don’t Look Up, here’s your guide.
1. President Janie Orlean
This one was a no brainer. It was obvious that the President of the United States in the movie was based on the real life former president Donald Trump. The similarities are uncanny. Similar to Trump, Orlean is a former reality star turned president who really doesn’t talk a lot of sense. Just as Orlean dismisses the science behind the scientist’s claims, Trump also once said, “Well, I don’t think the science knows, actually,” when talking about climate change.

Don’t Look Up nailed the character to the tee. Between the nepotism, the cheesy hats, the narcissim and supporters who are just as bad as their leader, it’s hard not to think of Trump when you see President Janie Orlean.
2. Jason Orlean
If you need any more confirmation about how the Orlean family is based on the Trump family, look no further than Jason Orlean. Jason is the president’s son and is grossly underqualified for his job but is hired because of nepotism. The character traits of Jason are built on some rumor or scandal surrounding the Trump children and their spouses. Whether its Trump Jr’s drug use, the father’s strange obsession with Ivanka’s looks or Kushner being Trump’s hypeman, all these characteristics are present in Jason.

3. Peter Isherwell
The eccentric CEO is based on a combination of real life people including Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos. Isherwell is initially introduced as someone who is trying to allow technology take control over our lives more than it already is. Which is eerily similar to what Zuckerberg’s plan with Meta is. But more than that, Isherwell mirrors the criticisms these real life billionaires face as they are fascinated with space travel and will invest billions into it and ignore the impeding climate crisis. Isherwell also mirrors how much control these billionaires have over the government even.

4. The Morning Show hosts
Cate Blanchett and Tyler Perry do a great job in playing the morning show hosts in the movie. They’re eerily similar to how the hosts on infamous shows such as Good Morning America. Way too happy, they make light of a catastrophic event and turn it into a joke. Ironically enough, Perry admits to having consulted morning show hosts for this role!
