Celebrity behaviours we want explanation for – Part 2

Does Sheheryar Munawar like one Fahad better than the other, and does Nida Yasir really believe she won't be recognizable with a mask?

By Farheen Abdullah

KARACHI: Not long ago, we pointed out some celebrity behaviours that we found absurd, at the least. These included some of our favourite Pakistani celebrities violating COVID SOPs while a few others said or did things which did not make sense to many. Of course, in no way did we think that one list was going to be enough to summarize the foolishness and ignorance that our celebrities are so used to displaying. Keep reading to find out who managed to make it to our list of celebrity behaviours we want explanation for this time!

Sheheryar Munawar and the Fahads

Quite a stir was created on social media when pictures and videos of Fahad Mirza celebrating his 40th birthday surfaced. A number of Pakistani celebrities were invited to the party where COVID SOPs were being violated. While Frieha Altaf denied violating SOPs, Sheheryar Munawar won hearts as he apologised for being careless and thanked his fans for keeping his moral compass in check. However, 10 days or so later, Munawar was spotted at Fahad Mustafa’s game show, Jeeto Pakistan.

Now, anyone who has even watched a glimpse of the show knows that SOPs do not exist on the set. Other than reducing the audience capacity, the team has done nothing else to adapt to the new normal. During Ramadan, Fahad Mustafa invited teams of guests every single day, and they all indulged in a series of games without a mask or sanitizer in sight. Forget about social distancing altogether. Does Sheheryar Munawar like one Fahad than the other? If he did not know how many people were going to be at Fahad Mirza’s birthday, did he also not know what the format of Fahad Mustafa’s show is? If he planned on violating SOPs on more than one occasion, why bother with the apology at all? Was Rihanna talking about Munawar when she sang “Don’t tell me you’re sorry ’cause you’re not, baby when I know you’re only sorry you got caught”?

Ali Zafar and the birthday bash

Birthdays seem to be a popular hotspot for violation of COVID SOPs. After the frenzy created over Mirza’s birthday, pictures from Ali Zafar’s birthday bash in Lahore made their way to the internet. In one particular picture, atleast 25 people can be seen huddled together, smiling at the camera. And to think that this happened over the Eid weekend, a time when even stricter SOPs had been imposed across the country.

The surprising element does not lie in the fact that Ali Zafar decided to throw a party. The irony lies in the inconsistent acts of our celebrities. The pictures from Zafar’s party surfaced on 16th May while on 6th May, only 10 days earlier, Zafar had shared a heartfelt message for the people of India. Given the COVID crisis in the neighbouring country, Zafar stated “iss mushkil waqt main main, ham Pakistani, ap keh sath kharay hain” (in these trying times, Pakistanis including me are standing by your side). Who knew he literally meant ‘sath’ (together) and wasn’t talking about being there in spirit? In the video, he also stated “Yahan Pakistan main bhi loag bohat mushkil main hain” (Even in Pakistan, people are going through a tough time). Okay then which Pakistan are you and your friends living in, Ali Zafar? And to quote a line from his Instagram post, “We have no right to call ourselves human beings if we don’t have empathy for each other, especially in such challenging times”. What should we call you then?

Neelam Muneer, Humayun Saeed and picture-perfect shots

We held Nida Yasir accountable for receiving a COVID vaccine jab without wearing a mask. Turns out, more celebrities seemed to have followed her lead. Recent pictures of Neelam Muneer and Humayun Saeed show both of them receiving vaccine shots, bare-faced. Perhaps the most thought-out vaccination process was for Saeed who has pictures from multiple angles, and has pictures with and without a mask. Cherry on top is the fact that the person vaccinating him also seems to have pulled his mask down as the two pose for the picture-perfect (vaccine) shot.

Nida Yasir and the search for identity

Nida Yasir being, well, Nida Yasir, had to give us another reason to feature her on our list yet again. Clearly not the only celebrity to have received a jab without a mask or violated SOPs on other occasions, Nida Yasir seems to be the only one who still wants to defend her acts. In a recent interview with BBC Urdu, Yasir was questioned about her relationship with masks and whether she even owns one. To this, Yasir replied that a mask was in her hands while she received the vaccine. “How would anyone know that it’s Nida Yasir in the picture had I been wearing a mask? Would they have recognised me by my eyes?”

Umm…well first of all, if Nida Yasir is sharing a picture of a woman receiving the vaccine on her Instagram, isn’t it pretty obvious that she’s sharing her own picture? And honestly who does not recognise Nida Yasir’s eyes or hair or forehead after seeing it every morning (and even nights during Ramadan) on national television? As far as the “main kisi keh sath nahi baithti” (I don’t sit next to anyone) statement is concerned, we’re just going to leave a few pictures here for Nida Yasir to reflect on.
