KARACHI: 24th February marks the landmark decision of the Islamabad courts to sentence Zahir Jaffer
to death for the brutal rape and murder of Noor Mukadam
. For the past seven months, Pakistanis have held their breaths praying for justice. Now that justice has been served, the nation has been expressing their emotions on social media.

Actor Shahana Jan perfectly encapsulated her feelings and wrote, “The brain feels a hint of relief and the tears begin to flow and we want to sigh,” and went on to describe how the news of the sentencing is like, “being punched in the solar plexus, leaving us gasping for air as the hollow unfolds.” While she questioned what was in store in terms of appeals and acquittals she also said, “For now, we allow the sigh. We breathe a bit.”

Zara Noor Abbas wrote, “My faith in the judicial system of Pakistan is restored.”
Osman Khalid Butt also raised the question of the possibility of an appeal and commented on the acquittal of Asmat Adamjee and Zakir Jaffer. He wrote, “I know we’re far from true justice prevailing.” However, he did express a slight bit of relief at the judgement, “But after months of his charade, complete lack of resmose or guilt, there’s this: Zahir Jaffer has been sentenced to death.”
Samina Peerzada took to Twitter to express her mixed emotions, “Justice has been served for now but a long way to go. I’m hopeful that our judiciary our police and our people will make Pakistan safe for our girls.”

Activist Nayab Jan sent out a prayer for Noor Mukadam’s family and friends and wrote, “May Noor’s family finally find closure. May Noor and her loved ones finally find peace.”

Model Mushk Kaleem shared the news of the sentencing and wrote, “I actually want to cry.”
Director Nabeel Qureshi also shared the news and simply wrote, “Finally!!”
Both Sajal Aly and Saboor Aly shared pictures of Noor on their Instagram accounts. While Sajal simply put a praying emoji with the news, Saboor wrote, “Justice served 🙏🏻 I hope it remains the same.”
