KARACHI: Earlier this year, news of Farhan Saeed and Hania Aamir coming together for a drama titled Jhooti made rounds on the internet. A few days later, director Qasim Ali Mureed who has earlier directed the duo for Asim Jofa’s Ishq Sufiyana promised to portray Aamir in an unconventional role that will be appreciated by her fans. With the first teaser of the drama, which is now titled Mere Humsafar, out, fans have a better idea of what to expect from the show.

From the first look, Hania Aamir seems to be playing the role of a girl who belongs to a different background and even class than Farhan Saeed who loves her and marries her. Right off the bat, we see Aamir’s character being in direct conflict with her mother-in-law, Saba Hamid, who clearly does not approve of her.
As suggested by the teaser and even the initial title of the show, Aamir’s character is that of a liar or at least someone who is accused of being a liar and a cheater by her mother-in-law. At first glance, one cannot help but be reminded of the dynamic shared by Mahira Khan and Atiqa Odho’s characters in Humsafar where the mother-in-law falsely accuses the protagonist of cheating on her husband and throws her out of the house. Khirad from Humsafar meets her fate because of her lower social status. With the titles of the two shows being partially similar as well, will the team behind Mere Humsafar be able to steer clear from a comparison with the 2011 hit? Guess we will have to wait and find out.
