KARACHI: Saba Qamar and Bilal Saeed recently released a music video, called ‘Qubool’ and it has not gone too well for both artists. After the teaser released a few days ago, the two landed into trouble for shooting a music video at Wazir Khan Mosque in Lahore. Social media outrage showed that people were upset with Saba for ‘twirling’ inside the mosque.
Both Saba Qamar and Bilal Saeed apologized for unintentionally hurting people’s sentiments. Nonetheless, an FIR was registered against the artists for breaching the sanctity of a sacred place. The two have been granted interim bail for now, according to latest reports.
Going by the reports, Saba Qamar and Bilal Saeed took a stand in their petition that the accusations are baseless. They repeated time and again that they are innocent and law-abiding citizens. The court has issued pre-arrest bail till August 25 against PKR 50,000 surety bonds collectively.

The case is filed under Section 295 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the Pakistan Penal Code. People have varied reactions to the news. There are those who feel Saba Qamar should be taken to task. However, most of them feel that there was no point of an FIR after the artists sought an apology.
It is strange that not many people within the industry have spoken up on the issue. Fans and followers of Saba Qamar have come out in support though. In addition, veteran artist Sakina Samo took to social media to show solidarity with Saba Qamar. She noted that it is unfair to the actress and an insult to her work.
