KARACHI: Millennial girls grew up watching the classic Disney fairytales
. Donned in beautiful dresses, fighting against the odds and falling in love with a handsome prince and riding into the sunset, this was what dreams were made of. That is, until Disney decided to spur out live action remakes of the originals and took some liberties with the stories. In more recent controversy is the new Snow White movie, more particularly the actor playing the princess: Rachel Zegler.
Much to the ire of the fans of the 1937 original story, Zegler claimed that she wasn’t a fan of the original movie and was, in fact, scared of it. In an interview with Gal Gadot who plays the Evil Queen, Zegler claimed, “I was scared of the original version. I think I watched it once and never picked it up again. I’m being so serious.”
Soon after, clips of her interviews began to resurface including one in which she completely discredited the iconic love story and insisted that it would not be a central focus in the new Snow White movie, “She’s not going to be saved by the prince and she’s not going to be dreaming about true love,” the actor said. “She’s going to be dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be and that her late father told her that she could be if she was fearless, fair, brave, and true.”
Similarly, in another interview, she went on to claim that the Prince was a stalker, “I mean, you know, the original cartoon came out in 1937 and very evidently so. There’s a big focus on her love story with a guy who literally stalks her. Weird! Weird. So we didn’t do that this time.” She also insinuated that the Prince’s role (played by Andrew Burnap) wasn’t as important as it once was and that, “All of Andrew’s scenes could get cut. Who knows?”
It just gets worse and worse….
The new Snow White says that the Prince was a creepy stalker and suggests that all scenes of the Prince could be cut

Needless to say, fans were not amused at how the new Snow White was being marketed by the lead actor. Some even questioned the hiring criteria.
Why did Disney pick a woman who hates Snow White to play Snow White?#SnowWhite #Disney #RACHELZEGLER pic.twitter.com/aiLwgqRiv8

Rachel Zegler, you are 100% wrong about that. This timeless work of art is not one bit “problematic”. And Disney if you want to get on our good side again. Fire the people behind the creative decisions. Because we’re all slowly getting tired of this pretentious, toxic woman. https://t.co/oGdXpZFTaQ pic.twitter.com/Rxs9VCzBYr

Rachel Zegler admitting she didn’t like Snow White growing up, saying she had only watched it ONCE before getting the role is so sad to me. Out of MILLIONS of women who loved the character, care about the story and yet this is who we get. 🤡🤢 pic.twitter.com/IVKQN4FIHc

However, despite all the criticism Rachel Zelger was receiving, she did have quite a few fans rallying in her support.
enough with the rachel zegler hate. just say you hate women and go get a job

“The girl you remember but definitely made for the modern age.” – Rachel Zegler
And I’m ok with that… i mean, the original came out in 1939. That’s like 80 YEARS. Yet all these supposedly longtime fans of it want it to be the same #SnowWhite pic.twitter.com/UglIbynI7P

this rachel zegler / snow white situation is rly showing how easily liberal anti-girlboss rhetoric can sound just like plain old conservatism bc what you mean you’re dogpiling her bc she said her character isn’t a damsel and wants to be a leader in a months old interview?
