KARACHI: It’s fair to say that Alia Bhatt has had quite an intense past two years. In 2022, she starred in four films, co-produced one of them, began filming what will be her Hollywood debut, got married and announced her pregnancy. 2023 promises to be just as busy for the actor with upcoming release of Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani opposite Ranveer Singh and Heart of Stone alongside Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan and not to forget Jee Le Zaraa with Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif. To top it off, Alia Bhatt is juggling motherhood with her five-month-old daughter Raha. The actor recently sat down with Vogue and gave insight into what her life has looked like lately.

How does Alia Bhatt manage her workload with being there for her daughter? “I’m just taking each day as it comes,” she intones simply but sagely. “I’m not putting too much pressure on either Raha or myself to be together as a family unit with Ranbir all the time. She’s just five months old and I’m so impressed with how well-behaved and peaceful she is. And on days when she isn’t, that’s fine too, because she’s a baby and has the right to have good and bad days. Similarly, I, as a mum, have the right to have great and terrible days too—even though it’s very difficult for me to not have it together at all times because I’m such a control freak.”

Many have commented that Alia Bhatt’s pregnancy came when she was at the peak of her career and thus, wasn’t the ideal timing. Others take it upon themselves to give her unsolicited advice to stay home with her daughter rather than focus on her work. While the Darlings actor tries to tune out the voices some doubt does manage to creep in, “There is still a healthy amount of mom guilt. It does make me anxious to think whether I am doing right by my baby and work. There’s so much pressure on women to ace both, almost like this old-school dogma that once you have a baby, you have to martyr your career or you’re not a model mum.”

Bhatt revealed that what helps her get through the guilt is therapy, “I’m always wondering what people are thinking. Do they actually think I’m managing well or are they only saying it to placate me? Even if there isn’t judgement, you feel very critical of yourself. But I work hard at my mental health. I go to therapy every week where I voice these fears. And it helps me understand that this is not something that I will be able to figure out on day one or five or even ten; it’s an ever-evolving, ever-growing process.”

Talking about how her husband has supported her through motherhood, Alia Bhatt is all praises for Ranbir Kapoor’s relationship with their daughter, “Ranbir is such a hands-on father at home that it sometimes gets difficult for me to even hold her for a second.”

It’s fair to say that despite being one of the biggest stars in Bollywood at present, Alia Bhatt is just like any mother out there!
