KARACHI: What do you get when you put Hania Aamir, Wahaj Ali and Zaviyar Naumaan in the lead of a drama? Typically the answer would be: great things. However, after watching episode 1 of the highly anticipated Mujhay Pyaar Hua Tha, we have our reservations. Here are some thoughts we had whilst watching the first episode
.
Not another cousin romance!
It’s 2022 and Pakistani dramas have still not gotten the memo that cousin romance
stories are icky. Seriously though, out of 8 billion people in the world you haven’t managed to explore options beyond your cousin? Watching Saad (Wahaj Ali) making love struck, puppy dog eyes at Maheer (Hania Aamir) is the worst way to start the show!
Saad, bro, take a hint.
Speaking of making love sick eyes, it seems as though Saad is incredibly dense when it comes to the fact that his love interest is the least bit interested in him. For every cringe worthy line he uses on Maheer, she just looks at him like she cannot stand him!
If anything, she is only interested in making him her personal assistant. For someone so sweet and bubbly, Maheer really is mean to Saad.
The bubbly girl troupe.
Mujhay Pyaar Hua Tha episode 1 has cemented our belief that Hania Aamir will forever be typecast
in one role: the sweet, innocent, bubbly girl who everyone loves. She’s super naïve to malintent, gets into situations unknowingly and needs a knight in shining armor to save her (usually her cousin/love interest). Which is sad because Hania Aamir has so much more to offer as an artist!

Areeb, what are you wearing?!
We have a very simple question: why is Areeb (Zaviyaar Naumaan) so decked up for a mehndi that isn’t even his to begin with?! We’ve all heard of scorned girls trying to upstage the bride, but this is the first time we’ve heard of a guy trying to upstage the groom! That too in a sheherwani full of embroidery and add ons. We might have no idea what the groom was wearing, but we will never forget what Areeb wore.

Who hired this singer anyway?
The whole meet cute between our main characters revolves around the fact that Areeb is a singer. He is so hyped up that the bride refuses to attend her event until he sings her entry song. So, naturally we all want to hear the magic in his voice. Then we do hear it and suddenly wish we hadn’t.
It’s not that the song was bad or the voice was terrible. It was the execution that fell so flat that it can be used to convince people that the Earth is flat and not round. Clearly, Zaviyar Naumaan isn’t singing. And he cannot even keep up with his lip syncing. Plus, they could have at least tried to do better with the sound. But alas, we can’t have everything in life.
Saad, please stop being creepy.
So after the event ends, Maheer decides to stay back at her cousin’s house for a sleepover. Literally no one has an issue. Other than Saad who is trying to act like her daddy. Like a creep, he sits alone and laments on how he doesn’t like the fact that Maheer isn’t home with him having tea like they do. Every. Single. Night.
Saad, you have a crush on her, she isn’t your prisoner. You can have tea tomorrow. Now stop moping.
To be fair, we cannot completely write off Mujhay Pyaar Hua Tha just after episode 1. Here is to hoping the drama picks up in the next episodes.
