Tobey Macguire and Andrew Garfield to possibly return for Spider-Man 3

With Doctor Strange being an integral part of the next Spider-Man film, possibilities of MCU's multiverse become endless

KARACHI: 2020 felt like THE year for MCU, however, things may have gone a little haywire with the schedule, owing to the pandemic. Nevertheless, the delay has caused a rise in expectations, which in turn caused a steep rise in the number of fan theories. While some are theories as to what may happen, there have been a series of confirmations that lead to newer theories. What will the universe look like in the upcoming Spider-Man 3? Will Tobey Macguire and Andrew Garfield take back the stage? Who else is returning?

Who we might see

According to Hollywood Reporter, Alfred Molina might just be getting “arm-oured” to reprise his role as Doctor Octopus. Doctor Octopus or Otto Octavious is a brilliant scientist who turns against Spider-Man, played by Macguire in 2002. According to a report by GWW, Molina had been spotted on set.

Electro from Andrew Garfield’s last film as Spider-Man might also return in the upcoming Spider-Man 3, alongside Tobey Macguire. Jamie Foxx will once again be electrocuting the audience with his electrifying reprisal and Electro. In October, Jamie Foxx suggested in a now-deleted Instagram post that there was a possibility of three different Spider-Men appearing in the film. Marvel and Sony made no comments.

What the universe might look like in the upcoming film?

This suggests three incarnations of Spider-Man, Tom Holland’s, Tobey Macguire and Andrew Garfield’s wall crawlers might all feature in the upcoming film, making part 3 feel much like the 2018’s animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which featured multiple Spider-Men from multiple parallel worlds. How they come together might largely depend on Doctor Strange’s involvement in the story who can access multiple realities and turn time forwards or backward using his Time Stone.

His own film, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness will be releasing shortly after Spider-Man 3. It is possible that Tom Holland’s feature might set the premise for Strange’s solo. The Doctor Strange film might then set the premise for the WandaVision series after that. It is possible that Wanda, who can alter the perception of reality be involved in bringing all the parallel realities together.

The hope is strong with this one

While everything might be speculation, without a word from the Cinematic Universe itself, one cannot let go of Strange’s involvement in the film as being a mere coincidence. Yes, he might become a mentor-ly figure for Peter Parker, but with a Time Stone hanging around his neck, his involvement cannot just be about babysitting Spider-Man. We have yet to put our theories to test and wait till the film releases by December of 2021. This film, like all its Spidey predecessors, will be directed by Jon Watts, and starring Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, and Marisa Tomei.
