5 Netflix originals to look forward to in September 2020

There are plenty of options to binge-watch next month but here is just an early look at what is confirmed so far

KARACHI: Currently, Lucifer (season 5a), the final season of The Rain and a few other series are headlining Netflix. The streaming site also very recently released Indian biopic, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl that is attracting some controversy. Meanwhile, the platform is generating criticism for cancelling Hassan Minhaj’s show, Patriot Act. While these issues remain unresolved as of now, let’s look at some of the Netflix originals set to launch in September 2020. There will be many shows hitting the site next month but here is an early look at what’s scheduled already.

1. I’m Thinking of Ending Things

I’m Thinking of Ending Things is one of the upcoming Netflix originals for September 2020 that we are really looking forward to. With the intriguing trailer out earlier this month, the movie has horror fans hooked on already. Coming out on September 4, it is a drama-thriller based on Iain Reid’s novel of the same name. Serving as director, Charlie Kaufman has adapted it for the screen. I’m Thinking of Ending Things has a huge cast including Jesse Plemon leading with Jessie Buckley and Toni Collette and David Thewlis also starring.

2. Away (Season 1)

Starring Hilary Swank, Josh Charles, Vivian Wu, Away is an upcoming space series hitting Netflix on September 4, 2020. It follows the life of  Commander Emma Green who leaves her husband and daughter behind to lead an international crew of astronauts on a perilous three-year mission to Mars. The series comes from the producer of Penny Dreadful while it is created by Andrew Hinderaker. Away will feature Hilary Swank in her second major Netflix role.

3. Undercover (Season 2)

Scheduled to release on September 6, 2020, Undercover (season 2) will mark the return of the drug lord of Brabant, Ferry Bouman, on Netflix. The first look and release date for the upcoming second season was revealed earlier this year. The thrilling crime series will feature Frank Lammers, Anna Drijver, Elise Schaap and Tom Waes. It follows agents infiltrating and exposing large drug operations. Netflix has several titles in its originals called ‘Undercover’ but this one is the Belgian crime drama series.

4. Julie and the Phantoms (Season 1)

Starring Madison Reyes, Charlie Gillespie and Jadah Marie in key roles, the upcoming Netflix original is hitting the site on September 10, 2020. The teen drama series follows the life of high-schooler Julie who finds her passion for music back after she loses her mother. She is able to do so with the help of a bunch of ghosts who show up with their musical talent. In return, Julie helps them become the band (The Phantoms) they were never able to.

5. Enola Holmes

Enola Holes marks Millie Bobby Brown’s return to Netflix for her second major project on the streaming site. It will see Sherlock’s teen sister discovering her missing mother which is no less than a sleuthing adventure for her. In the process, she outwits her famous brother and unravels a dangerous conspiracy around a mysterious young Lord. Directed by Harry Bradbeer, the movie is expected to release on Netflix on September 23, 2020.
