KARACHI: The battle to bring Rawalpindi Express - A Shoaib Akhtar Biopic
to our screens rages on but in the midst of legal chaos, the teaser trailer for the movie just dropped. From Shoaib Akhtar dropping out from the movie based on his life to a change in the cast, here is all that you need to know about the cricketer’s biopic.
With Gohar Rasheed replacing Umair Jaswal for the main lead, Rawalpindi Express stars the likes of Saleem Mairaj, Raheela Agha, Faran Tahir, Salman Shahid and Shafqat Cheema to name a few. The teaser for the movie about Shoaib Akhtar, which was shot in over forty different locations, seems to have taken a bit of creative liberty when it comes to story telling. The trailer opens with Rasheed sitting on a wheelchair, who, we eventually learn, has been giving the news that he will be forever bound to the chair. And then we get glimpses of his life from running on the streets to running on the pitch. We also see singing and dancing and a lot of action including fist fights and angry mobs. It’s fair to say there is a whole lot of drama in the movie and regarding the movie.
The teaser comes as a surprise considering that not only had the former cricketer distanced himself from the movie but had also filed a stay order against its filming and release, “Due to creative and personal reasons I have decided to step away from the Shoaib Akhtar biopic project, Rawalpindi Express.”
It will be interesting to see how the movie will pan out, whether it manages to get pass all the legalities and if it will be a true representation of Shoaib Akhtar and his journey.
