KARACHI: We all grew up watching cartoons. Lovable characters and their shenanigans kept us entertained all through our childhood. But, it turns out that there is an underside to these cartoons that we did not know of. Somewhere along the lines, the creators of our most beloved cartoons decided we needed a dose of the bleakness of the world and so they created episodes that have come to be known as “lost episodes.” These creepy cartoon episodes either aired late at night when most kids were asleep and so they were lucky enough to miss them or they never made it to the screens. Here are three of the creepiest lost cartoon episodes.
Squidward’s Suicide
We all grew up watching SpongeBob SquarePants and as the years went by, we realized we were less like the overenergetic bubbly SpongeBob and more and more like the angsty Squidward. But what happens when Squidward has had enough of everyone and everything and decides to end his misery?
The creepy lost cartoon episode called Squidward’s Suicide begins as usual. The angry sea creature is practicing his clarinet, hitting his bad notes as usual and getting angry at SpongeBob and Patrick for the noise they are making. But then things take a sinister turn when Squidward doesn’t perform well at his concert and is booed off stage in the worst ways possible. And it clearly impacts Squidward who is then seen sitting on his bed looking forlorn. After a period of silence, Squidward covers his eyes and begins to cry. What follows is disturbing, to say the least. His sobs become more distressed and we see his eyes turn bloodshot red. In various versions of the episode, you can even hear a faint laughter while he cries.

The episode eventually ends with Squidward killing himself with a shotgun and a glimpse of his mangled body. Needless to say, we’re glad this episode never made it onto the screen!

Who doesn’t love Mickey Mouse? You probably wouldn’t if you saw this “lost footage.” The footage is of one of the older versions of Mickey Mouse from the 1930s. The clip begins a little strange but nothing concerning. Mickey Mouse is seen walking, looking a bit troubled, with his hands behind his back and in the background you can hear music. And by music we mean it sounds like someone is just banging on piano keys. And then the screen goes blank. Stays black for a while before restarting and that’s when things become messed up.
The creepy cartoon episode morphs into something sinister. The music changes into distorted sounds which later turn into the sounds of people screaming. Mickey Mouse’s troubled expression soon turns into a sinister smile and then the screen just ends up distorted. And right in the end is a cryptic message which reads, “The sights of hell bring its viewers back in.”
Dead Bart
The Simpsons are known for their creepy ability to predict major events way before they happen. But that isn’t the only creepy thing about the cartoon. There is, in fact, a creepy lost cartoon episode called Dead Bart that will change the way you see the four finger family.
The episode starts off as usual, but things are a little odd. Homer is angrier than usual, Lisa is more anxious, Marge is more depressed, and Bart seems hateful towards his parents. The family is off for a vacation and during their plane ride, Bart is up to his usual tricks but then he breaks a window and is sucked out in a gruesome manner. The image of his dead body is disturbing to see. And then the scene cuts to the remaining Simpsons. They sit and are crying but their sobs become louder and more distressing to hear and almost realistic. The images keep getting distorted during the scene.
The scene then goes to a year later. The family looks sickly thin, no sign of the pets and of Maggie. They decide to go visit Bart’s grave and on the way we see that Springfield is all but deserted and the houses are abandoned. Once they make it to Bart’s grave, he’s lying there just as he was from the scene where his dead body is shown. And as the shot zooms out, we see tombstones upon tombstones of all the guest stars on the show with their death dates. Even the ones who had not died.
