KARACHI: Critically acclaimed Pakistani features Moor and Motorcycle Girl won multiple trophies at the recently concluded Indus Valley International Film Festival (IVIFF 2020) The festival took place from August 1 to 9, 2020, online. South Asia’s first borderless digital film festival, the nine-day event featured talks, movie screenings and masterclasses among other activities.

Coming back to Moor and Motorcycle Girl, the two films screened at IVIFF 2020 on August 3 and August 7, respectively. Samiya Mumtaz and Shaz Khan-starrer Moor picked up the Best Film trophy while Motorcycle Girl was honoured as Best Film on Women Empowerment Award on the last day of the festival. Directed by Adnan Sarwar, the film featured Sohai Ali Abro, who played the titular role. Sohai received the Best Female Actor award for her effortless performance.
IVIFF 2020 official site describes Moor as the story of a “railway stationmaster who tries to cope with his wife’s death, his estrangement from his son and the corrupt world in which he lives.”
Announcing the news of Moor‘s win, director Jami Mehmood shared the director’s cut of the film earlier today. “Five years today and here is presenting you all our director’s version,” he posted on Facebook. He informed that the link contains 30 minutes of extra footage. “Colour and sound is not properly mixed,” he added.
Motorcycle Girl, on the other hand, takes inspiration from the real-life story of Zenith Irfan. The platform explains the film in these words: “Zenith sets out on a journey to complete her deceased father’s dream and in the process, becomes an icon of women empowerment and gender equality when the story of her journey goes globally viral.”
