KARACHI: Celebrities Justin Bieber and Ansel Elgort are facing separate sexual assault allegations that were made by women on social media over the weekend. Both have refuted the claims.
Bieber responded to claims made by a Twitter user named Danielle (the tweet and account have both been removed since) who gave a detailed account of the megastar sexually assaulting her in 2014 when she and her friends were invited back to his hotel room at the Four Seasons while attending an event in Texas, reports People.
“I don’t normally address things as I have dealt with random accusations my entire career but after talking with my wife and team I have decided to speak up on an issue tonight,” Bieber wrote on Twitter before presenting his alibi, that he was with his ex Selena Gomez the night he supposedly committed the criminal offence. “In the past 24 hours a new Twitter appeared that told a story of myself involved with sexual abuse on March 9, 2014 in Austin Texas at the Four seasons hotel. I want to be clear. There is no truth to this story. In fact as I will soon show I was never present at that location,” he said.
Ansel Elgort, famous for his role in The Fault in Our Stars and Baby Driver, was also accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl. According to Variety, Twitter user @Itsgabby posted a note saying that she was “sexually assaulted a couple days after I turned 17.” She wrote that she DMed Elgort and got his private Snapchat account, when she was “just a kid and was a fan of him,” and she didn’t expect a response. Her tweet has now been deleted.
“So when it happened instead of asking me if I wanted to stop having sex knowing it was my first time and I was sobbing in pain and I didn’t want to do it the only words that came out of his mouth were ‘we need to break you in,’” she wrote. “I WASN’T there in that moment mentally. I disassociated myself and just felt like my mind was gone I was in shock,” she wrote.
Elgort responded to the allegations, apologising for his immature behaviour but claimed that he entered a “brief, legal and entirely consensual relationship. “Unfortunately I did not handle the breakup well. I stopped responding to her, which is an immature and cruel thing to do to someone,” he wrote.
