Shehzad Roy’s latest sheds light on climate change

By Cutacut Editorial Team

KARACHI: Shehzad Roy is back with a new song and this time he’s trying to raise awareness about climate change especially focused on the floods in Pakistan. ‘Ya Rab’ is a collaboration with K Electric to shine a spotlight on the issue of climate change and raise global concerns around how human actions are affecting our environment. With lyrics taken from Kalaam e Iqbal and a thought provoking music video, no one could have done a better job on the track than Shehzad Roy did.

The video for ‘Ya Rab’ begins with a plea to the people, “Stop destroying your environment, before it destroys you.” The statement is followed with ominous clips highlighting just how much destruction has been caused by pollution.

The song hits closer to home when the mention of the Pakistan floods comes into play and we are reminded of the destruction caused. Shehzad Roy in the song highlights how despite the victims of the floods having contributed virtually nothing to the destruction of the environment, they were the ones who had to suffer the most.

While the effect of Kalaam e Iqbal is enough to get to us, the music video for ‘Ya Rab’ adds to it. From children running through fog in pure panic to people fleeing impending doom, the visuals become more heart wrenching when they switch to actual footage from the floods and how people were affected in the worst way possible. All the while, Shehzad Roy stands against a backdrop of a stormy sky as he pleads to the people to protect the planet they live on.
