KARACHI: Jimmy Fallon is one of the most popular late night TV hosts and part of his charm is that his humor is unproblematic. However, now that very humor is being called into question over a clip of Jimmy Fallon mocking Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. Many failed to find humor in the clip and others were upset over the timing
of the mockery.
It all began with a clip of a recent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where Prime Minister
Shahbaz Sharif struggled with his translation headphones. After a few unsuccessful attempts of putting them in, he had to ask for help. Despite the help, he still struggled. Jimmy Fallon shared the clip of Shehbaz Sharif and as the audience laughed, said “That guy is the leader of 220 million people.”
Well, Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif got “featured” on Jimmy Fallon show. 🤦 pic.twitter.com/vBMEXaNqki

While Jimmy Fallon might have found the clip hilarious, many failed to find the humor in it.
I didn’t understand the need for our PM being mocked over struggling for headphones. And Jimmy Fallon needs to get some good content.u can’t make of my country.#JimmyFallon

Some Twitter users also pointed out how inappropriate it was for Jimmy Fallon to mock the Pakistani Prime Minister when he never once brought up the fact the country is suffering through the worst natural disasters
in the world.
It’s exceptionally callous and in bad taste for @jimmyfallon to mock the PM of a country which is suffering from the worst natural calamity in its history. A comedian is all about the his timing and this joke just fell horribly flat. Use your massive platform to to better.

Cannot stand white people and their hypocrisy. @jimmyfallon chose to joke about Shahbaz Sharif on his show but radio silence on floods and funds. That’s white people for you.

Those who were calling out Jimmy Fallon also made it clear that they did not have to be Shahbaz Sharif supporters to see how the joke was in bad taste.
Not a fan of Shahbaz shareef but how can a person who loves Pakistan can enjoy what jimmy fallon did, he made fun of us & we are going ga ga over it???

To clarify this tweet does not support Shahbaz Sharif so please don’t indulge me in your political biases. The US has THE largest carbon footprint alongside the history of exploiting countries like Pak since decades. Its calling out for reparations and hypocrisy.

Needless to say, Jimmy Fallon missed the mark this time!
