Bilal Maqsood’s Zalima is simple yet catchy

KARACHI: Strings may be over as a band but it is a gift that keeps on giving. With both, Bilal Maqsood and Faisal Kapadia, embarking on their solo careers, we look forward to what they have planned for us. Bilal Maqsood gave us a taste of what was to come with his new song 'Naya Naya' and has come back with yet another single for us to enjoy.

Directed by Umair Anwar, the video for ‘Zalima’ has been created by “an independent multi-disciplinary creative studio that aims to tell stories and create experiences through cutting-edge design” called We Are Transmedia. The music video for the new song was captioned by Bilal Maqsood as, “Aap ka milaya hooa number filhaal bundd hai! (The number you dialed is currently unavailable)” and is a nod to the theme of the song. Maqsood, with his smooth as silk voice, croons about a love that is really putting him through the wringer.

The song itself is catchy with its upbeat tune and relatable lyrics. But the simple lyrics are very different from what we’re used to from the old Strings era when the songs would be laden with imagery and sophisticated Urdu. However, it comes off as a welcome change. Like the lyrics, there is nothing elaborate about the video yet it is enjoyable. The colors, the animation and Bilal Maqsood’s dance moves are more than enough to keep us hitting the replay button over and over again!

Needless to say, we cannot wait for more solo projects and singles from Bilal Maqsood!
