Jury of Festival de Cannes 2022 unveiled

KARACHI: One of the biggest film festivals of the year, Festival de Cannes is set to take place from 17th to 28th May. 2022 will mark the 75th edition of the prestigious film festival. Prior to the festival, Cannes has revealed its Jury for the year 2022. One face that immediately stands out for South Asians amongst the jury members is that of Deepika Padukone’s! Joining Padukone on the 8 member jury are Rebecca Hall (UK/US), Noomi Rapace (Sweden), Jasmine Trinca (Italy), Asghar Farhadi (Iran), Ladj Ly (France), Jeff Nichols (US) and Joachim Trier (Norway).

The Jury for Cannes Film Festival 2022 will be headed by President Vincent Lindon, a French actor. Together with the jury members, Lindon will choose one of the 21 films being showcased as the winner of Palme d’Or, the most prestigious award given at the festival for Best Film.

While Cannes Film Festival is an exciting event for movie enthusiasts all around, the 75th edition is of special significance to Pakistanis. For the first time, a Pakistani film has been nominated for the Festival with Saim Sadiq leading the way with his film, Joyland. Safe to say, the festival will have quite a few South Asians tuned in when it begins next month!
