Bilquis Edhi passes away at 74

KARACHI: April 15 came to a close on a sad note for Pakistanis as news of Builquis Edhi’s death broke out. Humanitarian and widow of late Abdul Sattar Edhi, Bulquis Edhi had been suffering from a cardiovascular disease and was hospitalized the last few days. After her husband’s death in 2016, Bilquis Edhi had been co-chairing Edhi Foundation with her son, Faisal Edhi.

After the news of her death broke out, people across the country mourned the loss of Bilquis Edhi. Politicians, celebrities, cricketers alike took to social media to remember the great woman that she was.

Saba Qamar echoed the thoughts of many as she labeled the philanthropist’s death as ‘a tremendous loss for Pakistan.”

Ushna Shah also reflected on all that the Edhi family has done for the people of Pakistan. “Our country has always been torn apart by greed and power hunger. The Edhis left a legacy of servitude and selflessness, the countless souls they have saved will be uttering prayers for her,” wrote the actor.

Author Fatima Bhutto, too, shared her experiences visiting the orphanage and meeting the Bilquis Edhi. “She served Pakistan’s poor and abandoned with great spirit her entire life. I often saw her when I visited the Kharadar orphanage, she was funny and warm. A strong and tenacious woman who will be missed by many.”

Social media has been flooded with prayers for Abdul Sattar and Bilquis Edhi and the legacy that they have left behind.
