KARACHI: 2021 seems to be an exciting year for Sheheryar Munawar as he took a break from the world of movies and surprised his fans with his return to the small screen. Winning hearts with his portrayal of Aslam in Pehli Si Muhabbat, Munawar had another surprise in store for his fans, in the form of his short film, Prince Charming. This time, Munawar chose to stay behind the camera and direct the film featuring Mahira Khan and Zahid Ahmed. As the artist experiences an eventful couple of days given the release of his directorial debut and his birthday, an interview of Sheheryar Munawar with Urdu News has caught our attention.

Since the recent release of Prince Charming, much is being said about Munawar’s directorial skills. The director, however, shared that the choice to sit behind the camera was not a sudden one. “When I was acting, I would be involved in the entire process and I’ve also directed quite a few commercials,” he revealed. “I believe life experiences teach a person a lot, so I figured I knew enough to direct my own film,” he added.

Referring to the praises that his short film has garnered since its release, Munawar shared how his idea was initially underestimated by people who often underestimate local audiences as well. “When I was writing the story for the film, a lot of people told me that the audience wouldn’t get it. So, I’m really happy that not only do people understand the story, but also like it. I feel as though we really underestimate our audience, even though whenever you show them something different, they always watch it,” continued Munawar.

Other than Munawar’s commendable direction, Prince Charming also fared well with audiences because of Mahira Khan and Zahid Ahmed. Not only are the two brilliant actors but continue to be appreciated by viewers as well. Speaking to Urdu News, the director revealed why he opted for the two particular actors to be a part of his film, “I felt that Mahira and Zahid would fit the role of a married couple well. I made it a point to not portray Mahira as a glamour queen and instead showed her as a girl that other girls watching can identify with. Zahid is a very good artist and his acting skills are very strong.”

After having impressed audiences in the world of movies and dramas, Sheheryar Munawar fairly stated that he does not consider himself to be just an actor or a director. “I’ve also done production and written scripts. So, I believe it would be more accurate to call myself a filmmaker,” stated the artist.

Sheheryar Munawar seems to be on the right track given the success of his latest projects. Whether he chooses to direct, produce or act in more projects is his decision to make but safe to say, the filmmaker will have many looking forward to the next step of his career.
