KARACHI: Garima Arora has become the first Indian woman to win a Michelin star for her restaurant Gaa in Bangkok, Thailand, reported the BBC.
Arora moved to Paris from Mumbai at the age of 21 to study at the prestigious Cordon Bleu culinary school. She worked as a journalist before her move.
The BBC quoted Arora as saying that her Punjabi family and their insane love for food is what drove her to become a chef.
Before opening Gaa in April 2017, she worked with several renowned chefs, including Gordon Ramsay, René Redzepi and Gaggan Anand.
Gaa offers a variety of dishes inspired by her “Indian upbringing and international perspective”, according to the BBC.
“I’m trying to combine the two to create something that’s subtle, beautiful and almost intellectual.”
