KARACHI: Mahira Khan has perhaps seen it all. She’s been loved and hated all the same in Pakistan. Loved, for her stellar work in Humsafar and films like Verna, for starring alongside Shah Rukh Khan in Raees and for representing Pakistan at Cannes Film Festival 2018, amongst other things. Hated for wearing that white dress with Ranbir Kapoor, by other ‘senior’ stars like Meera and Firdous Jamal and well, the list can go on.
However, we were just doing our usual stalking online and discovered something unusual. The most googled questions for Mahira Khan revolve around her marriage. When will she get married? Who is her husband? Is she married?
Don’t believe us? Check it out for yourselves. With the exception of asking for her son or her phone number, all the questions revolve around when and if she’s tying the knot.
In order to understand that this is sexism at its peak, we compared the Google search results for Fawad Khan to see what Pakistanis are interested in knowing about him.
The sexism is clear. Since Mahira Khan is a woman, therefore her worth is dependent on who her husband is and since Fawad Khan is a man, his worth depends on work and professional achievements.
