Mahira Khan pens letter in response to ageist, sexist remarks

Calls on tolerance and fighting against the mindset that a successful women is a scary thought


KARACHI: Mahira Khan has penned a letter calling for artistes to support each other, and to “be tolerating and let our fight be against the mindset that a successful woman is a scary thought”.

Mahira’s statement came just days after senior actor Firdous Jamal said in a TV interview that Mahira wasn’t much of a heroine and was old enough to play a mother. FYI, Mahira is only 35.

Jamal’s statement causes an uproar on social media, with many coming in support of the actress and speaking against ageism, which is especially rampant in the media and entertainment industry.

“In a world full of hate, let’s choose to love. Let’s be tolerant of other people’s opinions and let our fight be against the mindset that a successful woman is a scary thought. No it isn’t. It’s a beautiful and an empowering one,” Mahira said in her letter posted rob instagram.

She also thanked everyone who came out in her support, while also saying that she is proud of herself.
