Doctor G to tackle the subject of male gynecologists

KARACHI: If there is one thing that audiences can expect from an Ayushmann Khurrana film, it is that it will challenge stereotypes. Be it Andhadhun, Chandigarh Karay Ashiqui or Vicky Donor, the actor has time and again given us films that leave an impact on their viewers. Hence, it is no surprise that Khurrana has once again teamed up with the creators of two of his most celebrated films so far, Bareilly Ki Barfi and Badhai Ho, along with its second installment, Badhaai Do. Titled Doctor G, the new Ayushmann Khurrana film was first set to release in June 2022 but has now been rescheduled for October 14.

Announcing the new release date, the team also released the official trailer for the movie. Playing yet another unconventional role in the film is Ayushmann Khurrana who will be seen as a medical student enrolled in gynae when he would much rather be in orthopedics. Naturally, male gynecologists are not very common in desi societies where going to a gynecologist in the first place comes with a list of problems.

In a society where men and women are meant to keep a distance from one another, a woman going to a male gynae is nothing less than a nightmare for many. Not only is it uncomfortable for certain women, gynae has also been labelled as a ‘female profession’ in our part of the world. However, Doctor G finds himself in a fix when his supervisor, played by the brilliant Shefali Shah, tells him that a doctor is a doctor, and it is not a gendered profession.

From husbands of his patients ready to kill him for ‘inappropriately’ touching their wives to his mother teasing him with what the neighbours were going to say, Doctor G does not have it easy for him.

The film promises to tackle a real issue with humour while also making the storyline relatable for the masses. And of course, it takes a turn when Doctor G makes a mistake, allowing for a more sombre approach to the topic as well.
