KARACHI: It’s awards season in Hollywood and despite the ongoing pandemic, the Academy decided to go for an in-person event. They took proper precautions by limiting the number of people attending the event to only nominees and presenters and their plus-ones. As a result, viewers got what we have been missing for so long: a star-studded event with celebrities donning on some of the best designer wear. An added bonus was that the red carpet was mask-less. So, for a split second, it seemed as though everything was normal. Here are some of our favourite looks from the 2021 Oscars Red Carpet.
Margot Robbie
Academy Award nominee Margot Robbie, who was also a producer on Promising Young Woman, chose an embellished silver gown from Chanel’s autumn/winter 2019 couture line. She let the dress do all the talking and kept her makeup light with her hair in a messy ponytail.

Zendaya
The Euphoria actress is always a treat to look at on the red carpet and this time is no different. She pulled off a canary yellow gown by Valentino, not something everyone can manage as well as she did. The strapless gown had a midriff cut out and a bandeau top. The picture of Zendaya with her hair flowing with the wind will be etched in our memories for times to come.

Carey Mulligan
Nominated for Best Actress for her part in Promising Young Wiman, Mulligan wowed in a gold sequin Valentino gown. The two-piece ensemble is from the brand’s 2021 spring/summer collection and made a statement with its full structural skirt.

Another statement piece worn by Mulligan was the Cartier earring which took 350 hours to make.
Riz Ahmed
Other than winning our hearts for the clip where he fixed his wife’s hair, Riz Ahmed also managed to pull off a simple but great look for the red carpet. The Sound of Metal actor kept things simple with his navy blue Prada suit but changed things up by wearing a mock turtleneck underneath his jacket.

Lakeith Stanfield
The Judas and the Black Messiah star reminded us that jumpsuits aren’t just for women by wearing a custom Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello black jumpsuit channeling his 1970’s spirit.

Steven Yeun
You can’t go wrong with a tuxedo and Steven Yeun proved just that. The actor wore a perfect fit Gucci single-breasted tuxedo and paired it with a white crisp shirt, a double-breasted vest, and a bow-tie.
