KARACHI: ASMR (autonomous sensory meridian response) is an attempt through sounds such as whispers, crackles and accents to achieve a sensation that is sedative and relaxing. Thousands  of ASMR videos have been posted on YouTube claiming that the audience that watches them will experience âtinglesâ or chills down their spine (in a good way). This trend first started in 2010 and now, according to a Google report, there are around 5.2 million ASMR videos on YouTube.
Pakistanis have just recently entered the ASMR community on YouTube and every video is more unique than the other. In true Pakistani fashion, most of the ASMR videos are focused around eating; there are videos ranging from people eating KFC to pulao,  aloo keema, chicken karahi, mithai, Knorr noodles, biryani, bun-kebab and so on.
However, the most interesting ASMR from Pakistan are the âPakistani barber ASMRâ videos which are in essence, not following the standard definition of the term due to the fact that these videos are inaudible. These videos show the barber massaging the clients face using different lotions and oils. They also include the barber shampooing and washing the clients hair.
These videos have actually been well-liked by Pakistani as well as international audiences with some users commenting that the videos really worked for them. We are curious to see what genre of ASMR Pakistani YouTubers dive into next!
