Kamli, Joyland win big at Mosaic International South Asian Film Festival

KARACHI: 2022 was, without a doubt, the year for Pakistani cinema. And the success our movies gained is still rolling through. Earlier this week, Sarmad Khoosat's Kamli and Saim Sadiq's Joyland and the Sajal Aly starrer What's Love Got To Do With It? continued to wow audiences at the Mosaic International South Asian Film Festival and brought home some of the major awards of the night.

The four day long Canadian film festival took to social media to announce the winners. Joyland continues to gain praise around the world and at MISAFF. As per the offical MISAFF social media handle, the Cannes winner was awarded with Best International Feature, Best Screenplay (Saim Sadiq, Mary Margaret Briggs), Best Sound Design, and Best Actress to Rasti Farooq.

When Sarmad Khoosat released Kamli in Pakistan, audiences were in awe. It proved Pakistani cinema was so much more than the raunchy romantic comedies that are a staple in our cinema. And it seems as though MISAFF agreed. The jury of the film festival were all praises for Sania Saeed who played a blind woman in the movie, “Sania Saeed, who joined us at #MISAFF23 and was an absolute delight, has been awarded Best Actress for her role in Kamli.”

Not too far behind was Jemima Goldsmith’s romantic comedy What’s Love Got To Do With It? which was awarded the Jury Prize for the Best Ensemble Cast.
