Affan Waheed and Ramsha Khan pair up for a comedy-drama

KARACHI: Lately, there has hardly been any room for comedy in local drama serials. The genre does not get enough attention on the small screen other than a few exceptions like Bulbulay, the longest-running sit-com till date. However, every now and then, some light-hearted scripts make it to TV even though they do not always resonate well with viewers. An upcoming project along similar lines is Shadi Mubarak, featuring Affan Waheed and Ramsha Khan in lead roles. The two rather underrated actors are presently shooting for it in Karachi.

Affan and Ramsha have multiple drama serials to their names though the two mostly play serious roles. Affan usually plays the lovelorn guy (Khamoshi, Do Bol) while Ramsha’s past portrayals have been very intense (Khudparast, Ghissi Pitti Mohabbat). Shadi Mubarak, however, will see them in a different capacity. The two play each other’s love interest, as hinted by Affan Waheed’s recent Instagram post.

As suggested by the caption, Affan will play Bakht while Ramsha will be seen as Meerab. “and so it begins… Introducing Meerab and Bakht” he wrote. Looking at a still shared by the actor, the two seem to have good onscreen chemistry.

In an interview with BBC Urdu towards the end of 2020, Ramsha Khan had also shared that her next project is not very serious. “It is a light-hearted project, with a hint of comedy. It is a rom-com. I thought after an intense project as Ishqiya and a satire like Ghissi Pitti Mohabbat which is very dark, I should take a break and go for some comedy.” 

Speaking of Affan Waheed, the actor is gearing up for another project in addition to Shadi Mubarak. Featuring Hira Mani opposite him, the tentatively titled Yun Tou Hai Pyar Bohat will hit our TV screens very soon.
