Hamza Ali Abbasi asserts blame must be put on culprits

KARACHI: Invited as a guest on In Person on 23, Hamza Ali Abbasi opened up on many social issues currently facing Pakistan as a dilemma instead of a characteristic. During the interview, Hamza Ali Abbasi urged that culprits of sexual crimes are solely to blame, and not the victims for what they did or wore when the crime occurred.

Abbasi was asked, “Imran Khan said If a woman is wearing very few clothes it will have an impact on the men unless they are robots. What are your views personally, and what do Quran and Sunnah say about this?” To which, he replied, “Quran and sunnah give both men and women separate guidelines. No matter what a woman does, whatever she is wearing, as a man, I have to be answerable for my eyes, and my behavior. I will be judged for my actions regardless of what is going on in society around me, regardless of the women. These days even men and children are not safe. What they do or wear is not a variable in my judgement as far as my own self is concerned in this particular matter.”

“Same goes for the woman. A believing Muslim woman who knows this message is from Allah has to be answerable for her own self. She will be answerable to God for her modesty and code of conduct regardless of how men in the society are behaving,” he added. “It is important to understand this. Men have their own independent judgement. You cannot say your indulgence happened because of the society around you. This excuse will not bring you brownie points later on.”

Supporting her husband Hamza Ali Abbasi over his stance during the interview, his wife Naimal Khawar Abbasi shared a snippet of his interview on her stories. She wrote, “Has to be my favorite interview of you so far, so proud! MashaAllah!”
