KARACHI: A society generally obsessed with the idea of marriage, usually only pays attention to a couple when they either tie the knot or untie it. Recently, the same amount of attention has been directed towards one of the leading Khans of Bollywood. Aamir Khan and his wife Kiran Rao announced that they are filing for a divorce after 15 years of marriage, on Saturday 4th of July.
Speculations about their marriage and what led to the divorce were trending throughout the internet. Recently, Khan and Rao released a video message for their fans and spoke about their decision. They reassured the ones that follow them, that the two are happy and still a family, as they will always be.
“You all might have felt sorry and not very good. But all we would like to tell you all is that we are both very happy and one family. There has been a change in our relationship, but we are together and there for each other, so all of you, please do not worry,” said Aamir Khan holding hands with former wife Kiran Rao. While she didn’t say much, Rao nodded in agreement with a smile as Khan spoke with a reassuring smile.
Khan also talked about the Foundation he runs alongside Rao. He ensured his fans that the organization will still be up and running, “Paani Foundation is like Azad, our child. It is as dear to us as our son. So both of us will always remain family. Remember us in your prayers that we remain happy. That is all we had to say.”
Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao tied the knot in December 2005. They have a son together, Azad, who was born via surrogacy in 2011. While the two may have ended their marriage, the video sends out the message that Khan and his ex remain cordial, and their son will have both his parents to watch him grow.
