KARACHI: There is no shortage of Pakistani dramas to choose from on our TV screens. But when it comes to searching for a show that is entertaining, fresh and does not involve characters slapping one another every chance they get, our choices are scarce. Which is why Kuch Ankahi
truly stands out. With a star studded cast that includes everyone’s favourite on screen duo Sajal Aly
and Bilal Abbas Khan, Kuch Ankahi is a drama that has something for everyone. Here is why we love what the show has to offer so far.
With only three episodes out, Kuch Ankahi is a breath of fresh air. There is banter without disrespect, compromise without abuse and the characters disagree with each other without being toxic.
The sisters in Kuch Ankahi share a beautiful bond and each has their own unique personality that makes them stand out. Sajal Aly’s character is a property dealer, a role that we see being allocated to few women on screen. She is also not afraid to stand for what is right, specially when it comes to her sisters. Mira Sethi’s character, though more obedient, lends support to her sisters whenever needed. And how often do we get to see a phuppo
being shown as an ally? But we are here for Vaneeza Ahmed’s character and how fearless she is!
Though Samiya’s wedding is a major concern for her mother, it is not what everybody else’s life revolves around. Even the father is open to seeking advice from his daughters and confronting the in-laws when it comes to taking a stand for Samiya.
While Salman and Aaliya’s characters and chemistry are central to the storyline, Kuch Ankahi also highlights how absent parents effect children. Sheheryar Munawar’s character is a perfect example of how sadness can often be disguised as anger amongst adults with unresolved issues.
While the show still has a long way to go, it is worth watching simply because it is entertaining. There is no unnecessary crying so far, even the characters who are troubled are not portrayed as victims and have an active choice in what happens to them. The touch of comedy specially makes it a lighthearted watch.
How does she do it and can we pull it off?
