KARACHI: Pakistanis are taking Hollywood by storm! Over the past few months, we have witnessed Pakistani artists showcase their platform not just across the border but all the way to Hollywood. Ms. Marvel
had a critically acclaimed Pakistani cast which included the likes of Nimra Bucha, Samina Ahmed, Mehwish Hayat and Fawad Khan. And it seems as though Nimra Bucha is not done with Hollywood just yet! The Kamli
star has landed a lead role in Fawzia Mirza’s Canadian Pakistani movie called Me, My Mom & Sharmila.
The Hollywood movie is set to star an impressive brown cast including Amrit Kaur (The Sex Lives of College Girls’) and Hamza Haq (Transplant) alongside Nimra Bucha in the lead role. The movie is set in 1999 and follows Azra, played by Kaur, over a period of 48 hours as she travels from her hometown in Canada to her parents’ home in Pakistan. She sets off on the journey to bury her father, played by Haq, and struggles to get along with her conservative mother played by Bucha.
Fawzia Mirza shared the news about the production on her Instagram page and wrote, “I cannot begin to tell you how thrilled I am for this cast and how proud I am of my incredible producing team without whom I would not be here.” She went on to say, “It takes a village and there are so many people without whom we couldn’t have gotten here. Stay tuned y’all.”
Her cast was equally as excited. Nimra Bucha reshared the post and wrote, “So happy!” Amrit Kaur also reshared the post and wrote, “I am thrilled to be telling this beautiful and important story alongside these brilliant South-Asian trailblazers.”
The movie does not have a release date just yet but production will be spread out in Nova Scotia, Canada and Pakistan in late 2022.
