KARACHI: As Ramadan comes to an end, so do the special dramas created just for this month. And while few Ramadan specials manage to stand out, we have been fans of Hum Tum since day one. Not only did the drama flip the story around and let gender stereotypes fall to crumbles, it also allowed audiences to laugh, relate and simply enjoy the show. With its last episode just around the corner, here are some major reasons why we will miss watching Hum Tum everyday.
Over the last few days, Adam and Neha went from being childhood enemies to friends. But nothing beats Adam falling for Neha, confessing his love right off the bat and even physically fighting for her. And who better to play a love-struck hero than Ahad Raza Mir?
Not only is Maha on her way to getting a PhD, she is also married to a man who does not have any degree at all. But it is uplifting to see Maha convince Sarmad to focus on his education regardless of his age and for the latter to happily agree.
Sarmad focusing on his education also meant that he would not be able to look after the restaurant. In comes Maha with a mission to convince her lazy sasur to finally take over the family business! There really is no age for getting one’s first job either. And kudos to Maha’s in-laws for not expecting her to turn into a sughar bahu overnight. They accept her for how she is and let her focus on her goals!
Who doesn’t love Daddo Handsome? He’s cute, funny and relatable. Even more lovable is the way he stands up for his granddaughters and empowers them. Even if it means standing up against his own son!
We love how Maha is never titled as a ‘divorcee’ in the drama, nor is she blamed for what happened to her. Her family takes accountability for marrying her off to the wrong guy and promises to never put her in that position again.
From the teenage Milli and Sasha who are brilliant at karate and computers, to Neha who excels at Science and Maha whose passion for education knows no bounds, we love how Hum Tum empowered its women. From decisions regarding marriage to careers, girls take the lead!
Daddo isn’t the only understanding man in the drama. Sarmad is the perfect example of a patient and respectful husband. Adam may be notorious but never disrespectful. Even Professor Qutub completely believes in his daughters and allows them to choose for themselves.
