Sonya Hussyn questions LSA 2021 criteria

KARACHI: Only yesterday, the nominations for Lux Style Awards (LSA) 2021 were revealed. While many celebrated their nominations for the annual awards, not everyone was pleased with the list. Srha Asghar took to her Instagram stories to share how many were surprised that the actor has not been nominated under the category of ‘New Emerging Talent’. Sonya Hussyn, on the other hand, had a more serious approach towards the matter as she questioned the criteria for the award show.

“It’s very disappointing to see that a project like Saraab did not bag even a single nominations at LSA 2021,” she wrote on her stories. “We talk about the need for meaningful content that also educates masses with real issues but when finally created they’re hardly ever recognized/nominated for awards. Aren’t those double standards?” elaborated the actor while referring to her drama which portrayed an individual with schizophrenia and attempted to de-stigmatize mental health.

Hussyn further expressed her disappointment with the LSA 2021 nominations by reminding readers of her previous projects, many of which have addressed sensitive issues such as child abuse and mental health. “Meaningful content or hit projects?” she questioned while stating that she has “never really understood the criteria for these award shows”.

“If latter then why were some of my mega blockbuster dramas like Aisi Hai Tanhai, Nazo, Ishq Zahe Naseeb, Shikwa, Meri Guriya never considered at all in the past?”

Sonya Hussyn wondered whether none of the projects she has starred in over a span of seven years were deserving of awards, or at least nominations. “In a country where veteran artists are given achievement awards after they’re gone, then of course who am I to question?” she concluded.
