KARACHI: Social media posts by these artists make it clear that Asim Azhar, Talha Anjum and Talhah Yunus are friends. While Asim Azhar has a range of songs to his claim, the two rappers have only recently been picking up pace under Young Stunners in the Pakistani music scene. After their collaboration over ‘Tum Tum’ in 2020, the three friends have returned with yet another track. Titled ‘Yaad’, the song is about a love hangover. Raamis, another rap artist, has also contributed to the lyrics of the song which has otherwise been composed by Asim Azhar and Young Stunners.
Though the composition of the song is simple, it resonates well with the kind of music Asim Azhar tends to create. The video also allows viewers to focus on the song without creating too many distractions. Some could argue that the video lacks depth as it is more of a performance by the three artists and has little connection to the song otherwise.
Talha Anjum and Talhah Yunus, however, have brought their A-game to the project yet again. After their success with ‘Groove Mera’, the official anthem for PSL 6, the two rappers did gain fame amongst the masses. More recently, their contribution towards the Coke Studio anthem, ‘Ao Ehad Karain’, gave the song a fresh feel. ‘Yaad’, too, adds up to all that the young rappers have to offer to our music industry. While rap is often not taken seriously as a form of art in our part of the world, Talha Anjum and Talhah Yunus seem adamant on proving the power of words, regardless of the rhythm they are performed in.
‘Yaad’ might not be a whole lot different from other songs Asim Azhar has been producing but given his fanbase, the track is likely to be a hit. Released on 25th March, the song has been trending on number 6 on YouTube.
