A visit to ‘Wakanda’ might just be around the corner

KARACHI: Filmmaker Ryan Coogler has set out to reignite the futuristic Wakanda as he signs a deal with Disney TV. Chadwick Boseman’s death came as a shock to his fans as well as MCU, which had planned another upcoming Black Panther movie for Phase 4. With a number of petitions requesting Marvel to not recast for Boseman’s character, it is possible that the filmmakers have now found another way around it. Fans now get to stay in Wakanda and wait for the latest development after the unexpected loss of their Black Panther.

According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, as part of the new five-year deal between Disney TV and Coolger’s Proximity Media, the writer-director will be developing a Wakanda-based Disney+ series. But that is not all. He will have a hand in other shows set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“Ryan Coogler is a singular storyteller whose vision and range have made him one of the standout filmmakers of his generation,” stated Bob Iger, the executive Chairman of Disney, in his statement. “With Black Panther, Ryan brought a groundbreaking story and iconic characters to life in a real, meaningful, and memorable way, creating a watershed cultural moment. We’re thrilled to strengthen our relationship and look forward to telling more great stories with Ryan and his team.”

Coogler expressed his gratitude towards signing the deal in a statement too. “It’s an honor to be partnering with The Walt Disney Company. Working with them on Black Panther was a dream come true. As avid consumers of television, we couldn’t be happier to be launching our television business with Bob Iger, Dana Walden, and all the amazing studios under the Disney umbrella,” he said. “We look forward to learning, growing, and building a relationship with audiences all over the world through the Disney platforms. We are especially excited that we will be taking our first leap with Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, and their partners at Marvel Studios where we will be working closely with them on select MCU shows for Disney+. We’re already in the mix on some projects that we can’t wait to share.”

Fans are already waiting eagerly for any updates on the matter, and perhaps after WandaVision, the new Wakanda series is what will keep us hooked to MCU as its universe aligns with the closure of cinemas worldwide.
