Ali Kazmi announces new play, ‘Uncle Vanya’

KARACHI: Over the past few months, Pakistani actors, singers, and filmmakers have showcased their talent on various international platforms. From the cast of Ms. Marvel walking the red carpet in Hollywood to Ahad Raza Mir starring in Resident Evil, it seems as though the sky is the limit. To add to the list of Pakistani talent gaining recognition overseas is Ali Kazmi who announced that he is starring in a play called Uncle Vanya.

Ali Kazmi shared the news on Instagram and talked about how the play and his role in it is very close to his heart on two different levels. Not only did he see his father play the same role, but is also close to him as an immigrant, “I will be playing Astrov (A role very close to my heart and hits me on so many levels , as I have watched my father play it before and as a Southasian man playing a lead in a play North America, my immigrant dreams coming true, so proud to represent ) in “Uncle Vanya” By Chekov, one of the greatest characters ever written, in one of the greatest play ever written with one of the greatest cast and crew ever assembled.” The play will feature in the Toronto Crows Theatre from September 6th to October 2nd, 2022.

The play is not the only thing that Ali Kazmi has been busy in. The actor will also be seen in Kashif Pasta’s new sci-fi movie called Desi Standard Time Travel. As per the IMDB synopsis, the movie follows a new father who suddenly loses his own father. However, he finds himself with an opportunity to travel back in time for an evening, which gives him a chance to end things on a better note. The movie has landed itself a spot in the 20th annual Tallgrass Film Festival in Wichita, Kansas.

Needless to say we are excited to see what Ali Kazmi will bring to stage and TV with his new play and movie!
