Pakistani-American docuseries nominated for Emmy Award

KARACHI: For many Americans, the events of September 11 still remain haunting. However, there has been quite a bit of discord about the tragic event from whether the attacks actually happened the way it is said they did to how America used the tragedy for its political aims. Surprisingly, a docuseries that explores America’s war on terrorism post the 9/11 attacks has been nominated for an Emmy Award!

The docuseries called Turning Point: 9/11 and the War on Terror was created by Pakistani-American filmmaker Mohammed Ali Naqvi. He is known for his documentaries that shed light on the socio political conditions of Pakistan, and feature strong characters on personal journeys of self-discovery. The docuseries on the 9/11 attacks is a 5 part series which quickly rose to fame on the OTT platform Netflix, with the likes of Stephen King and Kim Kardashian being fans.

Turning Point: 9/11 and the War on Terror begins with the day of the tragedy and documents the events that took place between US and Afghanistan. The official synopsis by Netflix reads, “A cohesive chronicle of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the US, offering illuminating perspectives and personal stories of how the catastrophic events of that day changed the course of the nation.”

Naqvi took to social media to share the news that Turning Point: 9/11 and the War on Terror was nominated in the Outstanding Politics and Government Documentary category. The docuseries will compete against the likes of 212 Un-Redacted by ABC, Obama: In Search of as More Perfect UnionA La Calle by HBO and Mayor by PBS.

The Emmy Awards will take place in September this year.
