Ali Zafar and Aima Baig come together for ‘Aik Qoum, Aik Manzil’

KARACHI: Ali Zafar and Aima Baig have once again come together for their latest song – Aik Qoum, Aik Manzil. Pakistan – an idea that took birth in Lahore in 1940 is now a sovereign homeland. Coming together to demand a separate homeland for Muslims living in British India is what is now remembered as Pakistan Resolution Day today.

The song has been produced by ISPR and focuses on the patriotism that brought the idea of Pakistan to life. It begins with Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s speech in which he expresses his heartfelt gratitude for the sacrifices people made to bring it into existence. After this, the scene switches to Ali Zafar and Aima Baig performing the song at Minaar-e-Pakistan in Lahore. A place where the resolution took place in 1940.

The message of the song is to bring together different ethnicities of Pakistan, that otherwise stand divided. The resolution marks the collective decision of the All India Muslim League to form a government in their name, in a country where people have the freedom to be themselves. Whether it is a matter of their ethnicity, their race, their culture, and last but not least, their religion. Featuring various ethnicities and religions within their music video, Baig and Zafar in the chorus of their song emphasize on our shared identity, values, ideas, and most importantly a shared destination. The song also highlights the armed forces, the healthcare workers who are on the frontline at the given moment. It repeatedly takes you back to the footage from partition days when several families abandoned their homes, families, wealth, and even lives to form a country they could call home. The video draws parallels with people laying their lives even today, especially during the coronavirus pandemic to keep that very ‘home’ safe.

Ali Zafar can be seen in a white Kameez Shalwar, with a green waistcoat, while Aima Baig stuns in a parrot green outfit. The attire for the song has been managed by Mehr Saad, while the wardrobe is from Omorose. Makeup has been looked after by Shoaib Khan while the official video has been shot and produced under the banner of ISPR.
