10 food items we’re dying to try at Karachi Eat 2019

KARACHI: Karachi Eat Festival 2019 is a day away. It has easily become one of the most anticipated, annual events in the city. I mean, what could be more unifying than our combined love for food. And that too in the winter! (Yes, ‘Karachi winter’ is a thing, ok?)

With the event growing bigger every year, many new food ventures are being introduced. Pop rock band Fuzön will be performing along with new talents such as Darvesh,  Tamaasha and Jambro. It’s entertainment coupled with food this time. It can’t get any better than that, can it?

The organisers have been showing us little teasers of what to expect this year. Although the total number of stalls have been reduced from over 120 to 90 this year, there will definitely be many surprises. And they all look Instagram-worthy, not to mention at-least-a-bite-worthy.

Here’s a list of food items that we’re really intrigued by and can’t wait to dig into:

1. Gappay Shots

We are rooting for this one for the sheer creativity of having gol gappay with its paani, in a rather more coordinated fashion. And also because, well, they are gol gappay ‘shots’ after all!  No shot is better than that of the spicy, tangy paani splashing over the loaded gol gappa in your mouth. So ready to choke on it! (No pun intended).

 

2. Cronuts

Oooh! This exquisite New York special is coming to K-Town, and we can’t be more excited! A cronut is a beautiful fusion of a croissant and a doughnut, and you definitely won’t want to miss this.

3. Flamin’ Dog/Hot Rod

Are these actual hot dogs wrapped in crumbs and fried? Or is this a different stuffing of potato and chicken, knead together to look like hot dogs? We can’t tell yet, but they sure do look good!

4. BLA Cream Chimney

That so does not look BLA(h)! This chimney cone of Caffe Parha’s looks actually really pretty, especially with all the glitter. What is that flavour though? We’ll definitely find out this weekend.

5. Chapli Kabab

This claim should not be taken lightly. Those who have had chapli kababs in Peshawar or anywhere in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, would know that this beef item is second to none. This is a very high expectation being set right there. Peshawar Chapli Hut, please don’t disappoint.

6. Red Chili Tacos

That looks so fresh and healthy. And spicy! Especially with the cut-up red chilies sprinkled on it. Also, it looks like a perfect light snack for a day when all you’d be doing is stuffing your face with everything good. We’re excited for this!

7. Pan Cake with Spiced Chicken

Another exclusive for Karachi Eat, this savoury yet sweet blend of spicy chicken paired fluffy pancakes looks like an adventure we’d like to go on. Going by the picture, it seems like this chicken piece is going to be quite a mount.

8. Cococane Slush Galaxy Cone

We’re so ready to let our inner child out and get a sugar rush by trying this colourful treat at Karachi Eat this year!

9. Rainbow Karachi Bowl

Yet another multi-coloured dish. Who doesn’t love a rainbow in their food?

10. Dahi Bara Burger

East meets West. This cosmopolitan snack looks like it was made just for the average Karachiite, promising the best of both worlds. We’re ready for this trip around the world!
