Serving my country is an inherent part of my faith: Atif Mian

KARACHI: Princeton professor and economist Atif Mian took to Twitter on Friday after the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) asked him to step down from the Economic Advisory Council (EAC) to say that he resigned for “the sake of stability of the government of Pakistan as they were facing pressure from Mullahs”.

“Serving my country is an inherent part of my faith and will always be my heartfelt desire,” he further went on to say.

He ended his statement by saying that his prayers are always with Pakistan and he will always be ready to help when required.

In the wake of this incident, economist Asim Ijaz Khawaja has also resigned from the council. In a tweet earlier this evening he said he is deeply saddened by the government’s decision and personally “as a Muslim” he “can’t justify this”.

Another economist, Imran Rasul has also offered his resignation. “I wish the government and EAC luck in their future work, and remain willing to offer non-partisan, evidence based advice that can help improve economic policy making in the country,” he tweeted.
