KARACHI: No matter how many times you listen to some old Bollywood songs, they never get old. Bollywood is full of such numbers. Here are a few timeless ones we haven’t been able to shake off.
1. Pehla Nasha (1991)
Aamir’s Khan romantic blockbuster Jo Jeeta Wo Sikandar conquered hearts of the youth in the early 90s. Its all-time signature song Pehla Nasha became the ultimate anthem for young people. We can still picture a young love-struck Aamir singing his heart out on a mountain top and in the middle of a classroom. A Bollywood song Classic.
2. Ek Ladki Ko Dekha (1994)
A Bollywood song often reenacted in recent flicks, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha from 1942 A Love Story was the love song back in the day. “Ek Ladki Ko Dekha” has never quite died down, and we’re ready to even forgive Anil Kapoor’s weird mustache.
3. Mehendi Laga Ke Rakhna (1995)
Is a list about Bollywood songs ever complete without the mention of DDLJ? No need to answer that, it’s rhetorical. Brides and bridesmaids dancing with a poker face at Mehndis with this song in the background was the thing back in the day. And we’re ready to listen to it even today and daydream about Raj, or Simran, whichever way you swing.
4. Aaj Main Ooper Aasmaan Neeche (1996)
The cutest song ever. Tell me OH KHUDDA? Who hasn’t reenacted this in the morning on their bed. Don’t lie.
5. Chal Chaiyaan Chaiyaan (1998)
Shahrukh Khan and Malika Arora’s dance on top of a train back was a game changer. From the lyrics to the choreography to the cinematography, nothing has come close to this classic Bollywood Song from Dil Se.
6. Jiya Jalay (1998)
Another Dil Se song, Preity Zinta in Jiya Jalay gave us serious #goals on being the perfect engaged-to-be-married bride. And of course, Lata Mangeshkar’s vocals will have you hooked instantly.
7. Koi Mil Gaya (1998)
SRK and Kajol’s blockbuster Kuch Kuch Hota Hai provided us with the most iconic love triangle in contemporary Indian movies. This Bollywood song had us relating a bit too much.
8. Dholi Taaro Dhol Bajay (1999)
Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam released in 1999 with a range of brilliant songs but Dholi Taaro Dhol Bajay was a cut above the rest. Still a hit at mehendis.
9. Wo Chali Wo Chali (2000)
Bombay Vikings’‘Wo Chali Wo Chali’ may not be our favorite anymore but back then, it grew on most of us and it’s still a sing-along classic.
10. Maeri (2000)
Euphoria’s song about mothers was gut-wrenching and something everyone can resonate with. Its composition and lyrics make it one of the best songs to come out of Hindu pop.
11. Pairon Main Bandhan Hai (2000)
SRK plays a love guru to three college-going boys in Mohabbatain. Pairon Main Bandhan Hai is only one of the many amazing songs of the film.
12. Bhumro Bhumro (2000)
It’s been a good 17 years but it’s safe to say many of us still dance to this tune on weddings.
13. Say Shava Shava (2001)
From the previous decade’s most popular film Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, Say Shava Shava focuses on the ‘Khushi’ part of the title and has us heading to the dance floor.
14. Wo Ladki Hai Kahaan (2001)
This is the song we have all danced to shamelessly in public. Firstly, it’s from one of the first, game-changing coming-of-age movie Dil Chahta Hai. Wo Ladki Hai Kahaan had us hooked.
15. Mehendi Hai Rachne Wali (2001)
All of us may not have seen the movie this song belongs to but Mehendi Hai Rache Wali is the most recognised and played songs at mehendis and no wedding season is complete without it.
We hope you enjoyed these Bollywood songs as much as we did!
