KARACHI: Not earlier than today, the Israeli occupation forces had fired tear gas towards a peaceful congregation celebrating a wedding party in Silat al-Harithiya village. The IOF has also been detaining Palestinian youth after seizing property in Sheikh Jarrah. Any form of resistance to one’s homeland has been met with brutality, arrests, bullets, etc. It hence comes as no surprise that many have been disappointed over Billie Eilish promoting her latest album in Israel.
During such a time, people look forward to opinion leaders to form informed points of view on the matter, since their following might also abide by what they see in their ideals. Many celebrities who earlier made statements against Israel’s actions in Palestine backtracked and changed their statements. A prominent example being Mark Ruffalo. However, most recently, a celebrity to have drawn ire from her support towards Israel is American singer Billie Eilish after she was found promoting her latest album, i.e., Happier Than Ever to Israel.
Eye.On.Palestine, an Instagram page that has played a crucial role in reporting day to day affairs within Palestine and how the IOF has been treating its civilians shared her video on their page with the following caption, “Billie Eilish promoting her new album directly to Israel and Israeli viewers in the Middle of an international wave of criticism against the Israeli Occupation’s aggression against Palestinians.”
Twitter has also been quick to call out Eilish over her change of sides.
Billie Eilish may have released her album to Israel, but it is yet to see how she has to respond to the questions posed towards her.
