The Khoosats take ‘Dastaangoi’ to newer heights, and to Zee Theatre!

KARACHI: Zee Theatre has come up with a new version of onscreen Dastaangoi (storytelling). Their ongoing series i.e., Yaar Julahay employs an ensemble cast starring Mahira Khan, Sarmad Khoosat, Sarwat Gilani, Nimra Bucha, Faisal Qureshi, Fawad Khan, Sania Saeed, Samiya Mumtaz and Irfan Khoosat, amongst many others.

The series looks at dramatic narrations of revered stories from the subcontinent, written by famous writers from India, Pakistan and Bangaldesh. Some examples are Garrm Coat by Rajinder Singh Bedi and Nazzarah Darmyan Hai by Qurratulain Hyder. Mahira Khan recently narrated a story too – Guriya, by Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi.

Kanwal Khoosat, as well as Erfan Khoosat took to their respective social media accounts to share the news with Pakistan.

Another episode of Yaar Julahay had Nimra Bucha narrating Ismat Chughtai’s Mughal Bachcha. A story of Kalay Mian, a proud Mughal lad, and Gori Bi, where the former is unable to accept a happy married life by putting aside his inferiority complex and ego. The story, a feminist narrative, looks at the burden on a wife’s shoulder who has to face the repercussions of her husband’s arrogance and mis-projection of anger.

“A treat for your eyes, ears, and mind! Watch Yaar Julahay, a series of dramatic readings of pure delight featuring scripts by legendary writers, starting from 15th May on #TataSkyTheatre,” wrote Kanwal Khoosat in her caption on a post she made on Instagram.

The dream-like art direction for each episode has been done by none other than Kanwal Khoosat herself, alongside Iram Sana and Ahmad Shah. The sound design, music, and audio effects have been looked after by Payam Mashrequi. The cinematography on the other hand has played a major role in intensifying the drama. The credit for which goes to Awais Gohar, Majid Baig, and Salman Alam Khan. Sarmad Khoosat and Kanwal Khoosat have also directed the series, with Sarmad also serving as the executive producer. Shailja Kejriwal serves as the producer, while Asil Baqa is the creator.
