Atif Aslam’s much awaited concert got cancelled

KARACHI: Mid-way through March, Pakistan has seen the lockdown reimposed in some of its major cities. Atif Aslam, who had been planning to set the stage ablaze with a socially distant concert in Karachi last weekend has now retreated from holding the big event owing to “the inability of the organizers to obtain the required local permissions”.

With the post’s apparent privacy settings to ‘custom’, the official Facebook handle of the singer stated, “We regret to inform you all that due to disruption by the local authorities on account of the inability of the organizers to obtain the required local permissions, the concert in Karachi would not be taking place today dated: March 13, 2021. We would request the fans to contact the concert management at the venue for further updates regarding the tickets bought.”

Bookitnow, a platform that specializes in ticketing management was also providing its services for the upcoming concert. However, after the cancellation of the event, the ticketing portal is faced with the reimbursement of all the pre-booked tickets.

The portal clarified its role as simply a platform for buying and selling tickets for events, not an entity that has any agency in suspending or organizing them.

Apparently, attendees had also reached the venue when they learnt that the concert is not happening. There were pictures circulating on social media that evening when the concert was due. Even if they get their money spent on the tickets back, who will take accountability for disappointing fans who scheduled their day accordingly and were looking forward to seeing/listening to Atif Aslam?
