KARACHI: As 2020, the year of uncertainty ends, the world is getting ready to welcome a new year. However, with COVID-19 still spreading throughout the world, New Year’s Eve (NYE) 2021 may not be celebrated with as much grandeur and public events. To ensure that the occasion is still celebrated, Emaar and Zoom Video Communications have collaborated to make the NYE fireworks at Burj Khalifa available on video.
According to Emirates News Agency, up to 50,000 people from around the world will be invited to tune-in and usher in on the first ever virtual New Year’s Eve celebration. “Zoom is proud and honored to take part in such a monumental event with Emaar, where our platform will allow people from all over the world to participate as we ring in a new year,” said Abe Smith, Head of International at Zoom. “In 2020, we were honored to help companies, schools, and families around the world stay connected through the disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic. We look forward to welcoming 2021 with hope and a feeling of unity.”
The celebration will feature fireworks and light and laser shows, and will begin at 8.30 p.m. (Gulf Standard Time) on 31st December. Those who wish to attend the virtual ceremony may register online. Citizens of Dubai will also be able to witness the celebration in person.
In addition to the Zoom call, Emaar has also given people from all the world an opportunity to send out wishes to their loved ones and have them displayed on the world’s largest TV screen, aka Burj Khalifa, on NYE 2021.
