Celebrities are joining hands for a conference on child sexual abuse

KARACHI: After the ‘Mein Bhi’ initiative last year, Catwalk Cares is returning with another socially-relevant event. There is a conference around the subject of child sexual abuse taking place this weekend. This is in accordance with International Children’s Day that is today, November 20th. The upcoming 2nd Stop Child Abuse Solution Summit 2020, hosted by Frieha Altaf, will take place at the Avari Towers on Saturday. In association with Search for Justice, the conference will be live-streamed on ARY Digital YouTube channel. Given the rise of child abuse cases in Pakistan, celebrities have lent support to the cause and will be speaking on the subject at the conference.

Pleased to be a part of the panel, Adnan Malik noted, “It’s essential that we don’t sweep child abuse under the carpet on the pretext of shame, as is often the case in this country. Let’s discuss it, let’s be open and let’s find a way to make Pakistan (and the world) a safer place for children to be carefree and enjoy their childhoods.”

Titled, ‘The Way Forward,’ it will commence at 3:30 and is scheduled to run till 6:30. The summit will address prevention strategies, awareness, teaching and focus on modifying policies, practices and societal norms to create safe, stable and nurturing relationships & environment.

The speaker and panelist lineup include moderators Sidra Iqbal (a leading journalist and development activist) and Fifi Haroon (leading journalist, media producer and development activist), and speakers Rana Asif Habib, President Initiator Human Development Foundation, and Sheena Hadi, Executive Director AAHUNG. Panelists include celebrities from the world of entertainment. The list comprises Faysal Qureshi, Adnan Siddiqui and Ahsan Khan.

Speaking to Cutacut, Faysal shared, “Being a representative from media, it is very important to talk about it. When nobody talked about it, we made a serial around the subject, titled Roag. We have been trying to raise awareness since then. Every year, everywhere this topic should be highlighted – in schools, colleges, mosques where children go. Children and their parents should be given awareness to eradicate this heinous act. We will have to come together for that.”

We hope this and similar initiatives help reduce and eventually eradicate child abuse cases in Pakistan.
