Nabeel Qureshi’s music video ‘Ki Jana’ gets international recognition

KARACHI: Filmmaker Nabeel Qureshi is gearing up for the release of his next film, Quaid e Azam Zindabad that features Fahad Mustafa and Mahira Khan in lead roles. The film is complete and ready to launch but the situation of cinemas is still uncertain owing to Covid-19. However, one project the director worked on last year came out in 2020: he worked on the visuals of a music video, titled ‘Ki Jana’, in collaboration with Shani Arshad. The video recently got nominated at Miami Short Film Festival and Bucharest Film Awards under the Music Video Category. Shaani Arshad shared the news on his social media.

‘Ki Jana’ features Sonya Hussyn and Mohsin Abbas Haider while it was shot in Balochistan last year. Nabeel Qureshi had fun shooting a music video after a while but he does not plan to direct more of them anytime soon. He feels they are quite time consuming and he already has a lot up his sleeve. We reached out to him to ask how he feels about the nomination. “It makes me quite happy,” he told Cutacut. “I hope that it will eventually win the awards too. Finger crossed. However, I don’t think I’d be directing more music videos.” Qureshi hopes that ‘Ki Jana’ will get selected at more international festivals too.

Aside from ‘Ki Jana’, Qureshi has been busy with other projects too. In addition to finalizing Quaid e Azam Zindabad, the director recently announced an upcoming web series. The series that Qureshi and producer Fizza Ali Meerza are working on revolves around Lyari gang wars. And that’s not all; the director is waiting to resume shooting for another film, Fatman, that will see Ahmed Ali Butt essaying a key role. Though Qureshi had wished to release both films in 2020, we hope at least Quaid e Azam Zindabad sees the light of the day this year.
