Mirzapur 2 gets a release date

KARACHI: The acclaimed web series, Mirzapur, was launched on Amazon Prime Video in November 2018 and it’s all set to return with a second season expected to release on October 23, 2020. (Spoilers ahead)

Mirzapur 2 will have actors Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Shweta Tripathi, Rasika Dugal and Harshita Gaur reprising their roles. The list also includes Amit Sial, Anjum Sharma, Sheeba Chaddha, Manu Rishi Chadha and Rajesh Tailang. New names adding to the cast include Vijay Varma, Priyanshu Painyuli, and Isha Talwar. Co-produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, Mirzapur 2 is created by Puneet Krishna.

Speaking about the release date announcement of Mirzapur 2 and all the excitement surrounding the second season, Aparna Purohit, Head of India Originals for Amazon Prime Video, said in a statement, “Mirzapur has truly been a game-changer title for us. The show heralded a new idiom of storytelling for Indian audiences – its characters have become a part of the popular culture. We are certain that the riveting narrative of season 2 will leave our audiences mesmerized once again.”

The first season of the Amazon Original revolved around corruption, crime, governance failure, rule of mafia dons and gang wars in the Purvanchal region. It tackled the issue of lawlessness in Mirzapur under the reign of Pankaj Tripathi’s Akhand and Tripathi aka Kaleen Bhaiya. He runs a racket of guns and lawlessness under the disguise of a carpet business. Due to his influential surname, his son Munna (Divyenndu Sharma) also indulges in crime but things are not as smooth for him. This was because his father ropes in two brothers, Guddu and Bablu, to take care of his illegal ventures.

Season 1 ended with Munna killing Bablu and his wife. Mirzapur 2 seems to be about Guddu’s wild revenge. Let’s wait and see if it lives up to the hype it is creating among fans already.
